Fall has been here for a while, and it’s time to step up the blog game. Although there is a reason why I’m not the most frequent of bloggers. When I first met my nutritionist, he asked me three questions. Do you have Facebook? Do you have Twitter? Do you write a blog? If I had answered yes to all of those, we wouldn’t have started our co-operation. He said if an athlete has time for all of those three, he can’t have enough time for training and recovering. Point well made! I must admit, I nowadays have all three for visibility reasons. Luckily, I’m active in these forums irregularly. Not daily, not even weekly.
Fall training is full on. It’s exhausting, there’s a lot of it and it brings me right back to the basics. This is the time when I assess what I can do better and more importantly, what I need to get better at. Now that I have some weeks of base-building in me, it was time to see what the starting level for this year is. So we did some testing. We started with explosive strength and today we continued with speed. If you can call it that in this phase ;) The results of explosive strength were promising. All tests were better than this time last year. And reactivity, which is one of my strengths, was better than ever! Starting level in speed was similar to last year this time but in all honesty I have to say that running fast first time after summer felt horrible! Luckily, the feeling will get better the more I run.
What made my day today was that my starting level in my physiotherapy exercises was much better than last year, or any year until now. The health and physiotherapy screening was carried out by our federation physiotherapist and doctor. I got really good feedback from them and feedback, as we know, is the breakfast of champions. It is a great starting point to continue our work with my personal physiotherapist.
It feels like I’m ready for the next training phase and to take the next steps forward!
